Overview
Young woman moves to big city. Young woman gets murdered in said big city. While investigating the murder, the audience investigates what makes these deliciously textured characters tick. This is truly some of the funniest dialogue we’ve encountered at Uproar. And we read A LOT OF STUFF.

Cooked up by half of the writing team of comedic chestnut Matt & Ben (along with Mindy Kaling), we present The Deer and the Antelope, a dark comedy about law and disorder; a who-didn’t whodunit; an offbeat look at the hidden costs of making a living.

Shrewd and incisive…a social satire about the search for an affordable place to live and the inadvertent result: paying the ultimate price.  Withers is so stealthy with her language and humor that grief and anxiety, which are front and center, are not painful to watch. You’ll be bewitched and perhaps bewildered by the play’s twists and turns…” -- Wickedlocal.com

Brenda Withers is undoubtedly a genius. This is a spooky, hell of a scary play that will make you laugh harder than you’ve laughed in a long time. It’s almost like Law & Order meets Twin Peaks, but funny funny funny. Brenda has a gift for circling a certain idea to its most comical extreme, and then shooting off to another idea, doing the same thing, all while making you reconsider your life and the forces that make it happen in between your laughs.” -- jose sebastian alberdi

Plot
Kelly, an optimistic young woman, arrives in the big city. Some seasoned realtors, Paulie and Jamie, help her find an apartment in an affordable, but marginally safe neighborhood. When Kelly winds up dead, a pair of unconventional detectives, Beemb and Riches, show up at the real estate office searching for suspects. Paulie is questioned, his secretary-and-sometimes-girlfriend Mel encounters a crisis of faith, and Kelly’s grief-stricken sister Lea comes to town seeking revenge or closure, whichever comes first. The crime is solved, but the unsettling questions it raises – of community culpability and bottom line blame –  remain.
